part 1 is a oldschool jackin house track with some minimal touch. a peculiar bassline, some good hi-hats and hypnotic vocals. danceflloor bomb! part 2 is a deeper mix of part 1, based on the same bassline. it has a slower groove and a softer kick. amazing second chapter for the supercharged story. nuit blanche is a down tempo track full of surprises. totally killer!

hiding behind their three character website is a belgian duo called goldffinch whose steep vision of dancefloor techno marries loveable little phrases of awkward computer conversation with the kind of kick drums that will rattle the windows of your neighbours house when your soundsystem is tweaked perfectly. goldffinch may well be a duo bent on keeping things simple but when the end result, which is built out of such minimal layers, is so arresting, there’s no need to change the formula. not one bit.

this time its xdb delivering the goodies for dolly, as always pushing the boundaries between house and deep techno. with this 4 excellent cuts xdb is taking the label in even deeper territories. even though they are very well playable and will easily rock the floor, taking it up to somewhere between jupiter & mars, xdbs tracks are more than just proper dj-tools. so well-crafted, deep, harsh and hypnotising, but always firmly keeping floor contact with minimal yet funky drum programming, exactly as this kind of music should be. to top things of, brooks mosher on remix duties delivers a detroit inspired remix of sunda. big!

juan jose diaz-known in the world of music as kung, is a producer of drum and bass and dubstep born in granada (spain) he has a string of dnb releases on labels as ammunition recs. (usa), melting pot (spain), suspect device, c2d (uk), black seeds (italy) and citrus (netherlands). his drum n bass releases receive good acceptance by the public and also from some major producers like misanthrop, jade, billain, and axiom to name a few. for lime dubs, kung shows his multiple talent as a dubstep producer as well. his sound is happy and dubby, hard to put in a box. its got influences from all over, from minimal techno house to his extreme bass and breaks editing.

frenchman julian jeweils second ep on richie hawtins plus 8 label is sure to confirm jeweils status as one of technos most reliable talents. the four track ep encompasses everything jeweil has honed in his ten year plus career – tough sounds, high energy and a fusion of electro and minimal that hypnotises as much as moves you. thus far it has come on labels like cocoon and skryptöm records, whilst at the same time jeweil (real name julien bérard) has been busy playing underground parties all across his homeland.

torb is fabien & julien torb. two french guys from the already mytical motorbass recording studio of paris. julien is a new engineer, my faithfull and beloved assistant. fabien is building modular synths and repairing our lovely pultecs and emts in the attic. the day fabien finished the tt1 (torb technologie number one) their love of francesco farfa and their pure techno ethic collided into some magical music. we at cassius records are so proud to put their beautiful sound out. in those days of maximal and minimal war, in those days where real house music seems to attract people again on the floor their techno is a bless and a bliss. reminding me of my rave age, when the all of paris was going to mozinor to dance to francesco farfa, armando, yayo or the ur guys until the break of dawn, i couldnt resist to ask them to grant us with a splendid ep : mars premier. i have nothing really to say more than that, and those who know me will understand that this thing is serious. peace and happiness zdar

after a short production break, the russian techno duo easy changes (denis cast & kilrill silas) are back with a 12 inch on the berlin/london based label, mean records, run by cesare marchese (cesare vs disorder) & federico benedetti (onirik). the lion is also a good drummer fits in nicely with the labels love of minimal techno productions that feature original sounds, moody melodies and deep aural landscapes. easy changes gained recognition in 2007 with two back to back hit releases on foundsound records. in 2009, they were the first ep from nervmusic, a moscow based label that focuses on unconventional techno started by cast, silas and friends. seated comfortably between the avant-garde and the dancefloor, the release has something for everyone. the title track, the lion is also a good drummer is an epic, crawling minimal techno production filled with stripped down percussion and abstract found sounds perfect for after-hours. on the flipside is the uptempo, quirky and tribal burlesque, replete with spliced vocal samples, snares, cymbals, bleeps and claps. for the burlesque remix, french producer doubtingthomas shows off his lifelong obsession with percussion and its rhythmic allure with the addition of a trippy drum solo midway through the track.

the us born and berlin based walker barnard created a unique ep drawing from his years of experience and studio work with sounds as diverse as hip-hop and minimal techno. featuring the legendary us poet and producer mike ladd and a remix from our good friend iron curtis, the result is something completely different and yet strangely familiar.

container is a recent moniker of nashville, tennessee resident ren schofield who has been actively shifting about the u.s. playing shows and releasing cassettes on his mysterious i just live here imprint for a long while now. known primarily for his god willing project, a disjointed, confusing, maze of crude oscillator, tape, and guitar, ren has established himself as a staple in the east coast underground.
here we have a new experiment in electronic beat oriented music. this is no standard fare, however. it glows with a vision all its own, completely isolated and separate making it difficult to place in the awkward world of the genre. the sounds are a thick stew congealing new ideas and naive experiments into something in the ballpark of the new super weird wolfgang voigt 12 inches, abstract and minimal in nature with time stopping tendencies. take those 12 inches and send them thru the garbage can, tape loop, reel to reel experiments of ake hodells >220 volt buddha< or that weird track with lawnmower by charles amirkhanian on the first slowscan volume and we might be getting closer.
